The Bluegrass Bats are excited to announce the introduction of Bats II and a Bats developmental team. Athletes from Kentucky High schools coming together to develop, promote, and showcase Kentucky Lacrosse. Our values include good sportsmanship, teamwork, fun, and leadership. Bats LAX is dedicated to honoring the game of Lacrosse. We expect parents, players and coaches to conduct themselves as examples to all.
While Bats I is primarily aimed at the recruiting aspect for older players, Bats II is geared toward the development of younger players. Our main goal is to focus on the overall development of the high school player. We are hoping to go to two tournaments this summer and one tournament this fall. Tentatively we are planning on playing in the Bluegrass state games in Lexington, Ky and the Cherry Bomb Tournament July 30th weekend in Traverse City Michigan. The fall tournament is Kent State Fall LAX tournament on November 7th. Practices will be held at the Bats field on Monday and Thursday nights.
Why Bats why now? A second team and a developmental team have been a shared vision of the founders Wayne Herner and Phil Fackler since the club’s inception in 2008. Lacrosse is booming and the skill level will continue to increase with more opportunities to develop the individual player.
Tryouts will be held Thursday, June 24th following the Bats practice at 7:30 at the Bats field on Lagrange Rd. Sign-ins between 7:30-7:45 with tryouts beginning promptly at 7:45. There is a $10 fee tryout fee. Upcoming freshman are welcome to tryout. Once you make the team, there is a $300 fee. This covers uniforms, field expenses, administrative costs (i.e. insurance), and other fees that arise. You get to keep the soft goods all to match the current Bats team. New matching Bats helmets have been ordered for use during the season. Costs per tournament range based on the distance.
We look forward to seeing you Thursday!!
Leaping Bat tusi......What a super turnout for tryouts. Over 35 batletes were there showcasing their talent. We had a beautiful evening of lacrosse that demonstrated that many good Laxers are still eager to play and develop. The BAT II team will be announced in a couple of days and will gear up to have a fun summer of lacrosse.
